CASE STUDY Rural Yorkshire Film & TV Studio
The Brief:
For the duration of a six-month filming project in a rural studio location in Yorkshire, the need for sustainable power was paramount. Addressing concerns raised by the local council and for obtaining the filming permit, a silent power supply for set lighting was imperative. The production needed a sustainable alternative to replace the conventional 300kVA generator used in previous seasons. Notorious for its noise pollution, high fuel consumption, and substantial CO2 emissions, the transition to battery power emerged as the ideal solution for delivering clean, silent energy.
The Solution:
Zenobe's 100kW/160kWh second-life battery was employed to supply power to the set lighting. Linked to a 32A three-phase grid supply, it boosted power as needed and recharged during low-demand periods. Scheduled for overnight charging on peak demand days, it ensured full capacity for the following day's shoot.
The Outcome:
The Powerskid replaced a 300kVA generator and supplied power for a total of 192 hours across a 16 shoot day period. The studio power supply was silent as the battery completely omitted the need for a diesel generator, meeting both the Council’s requirements, eliminating noise disturbance and CO2 emissions.
The Savings:
Based on the traditional deployment of a 300kVA generator running on a ¼ load for 16 x (12) hour days, the battery saved an incredible 2030 litres of diesel fuel. This rural studio location wasn’t subjected to noise and air pollution during the 16 days of filming and this sustainable silent power system dramatically reduced the production’s carbon footprint by saving over 5.5 tonnes of CO2 emissions! Significant cost savings were also made had the generator been running on HVO by saving over £5000 in HVO fuel.
