CASE STUDY Derelict urban hospital
The Brief:
To provide clean silent power for the set lighting on location at a disused London hospital. Reducing the run time of the generator , its carbon emissions, fuel and costs across the four-week period.
The Solution:
Implemented a hybridised system using Zenobe’s 100kw/160kwh second-life battery with a Super Silent Stage V 100kVA generator. Working with the gaffer and his team, the battery supplied the power to the set lighting at the disused Ravenscourt Hospital set in a dense urban and residential location.
To avoid noise disturbance, a silent power solution was key. With no available grid power, the Stage V generator was only used to recharge the battery automatically kicking in when the battery was at a 20% charge. This also provides the added benefit of supplying an UPS (uninterrupted power source!)
The Outcome:
By adopting a hybridised battery system in replacement of a traditional diesel generator the generator run time was reduced by an amazing 80%. This also meant that the fuel consumption was reduced by an incredible 54%!
The Savings:
This residential location wasn’t subjected to noise and air pollution during 4 weeks of filming, as this sustainable silent power system dramatically reduced the production’s carbon footprint but saving over 3 tonnes of CO2 emissions! The production also benefited from substantial cost savings by saving over £5200 in HVO fuel had the generator been the only power source. By creating a hybridised power system with the battery, the generator run time was reduced by 80%, saving them £2446 in HVO fuel!
